Background
Tyson believes that the key to successful Physical Therapy is in understanding how the body functions when his clients are performing daily and sports related activities. Tyson’s treatment philosophy includes dissecting the true etiology of the diagnosis. This is a specialty, which he focuses on in order to help both his acute and chronic patients identify the origin of their injury.
EXPERIENCE
Tyson has been a Physical Therapist for 20 years, earning his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and degree in Physical Therapy in 1997 from University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2009, He was certified in Orthopedic Manual Therapy from The North American Institute of Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) which requires an additional 30 months of training and rigorous testing. This certification focuses on sophisticated concepts in differential diagnosis and advanced, biomechanically based, treatment techniques utilizing high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) joint mobilizations throughout the body. He has taken numerous continuing education courses including those presented by Gary Gray and Vern Gambetta, who both teach a functional approach to biomechanics and rehabilitation. He has also taken courses on Pilates for therapists, Brian Mulligan’s approach to Mobilization with Movement and numerous running courses.
His personal experience with injury including an ACL tear while playing baseball and a cervical fracture sustained during gymnastics has also helped him to gain special insight and understanding into his patient’s experiences with sports related injuries. Tyson is active in the running community and coaches runners, helping them run more efficiently, improving their times, and overall running mechanics through video analysis, education, and specific running/balance/strengthening drills.
